It may seem illogical, but the truth is that our cooperative farmers from Bornholm have become better at ensuring the well-being of their cows. A healthy cow produces more milk, and thanks to advanced methods, we have actually succeeded in significantly increasing milk production. Previously, a cow typically yielded 7-8 liters of milk per day. Today, it’s normal for a cow to produce 10-12 liters. This improvement not only benefits the individual shareholder by saving space and feed costs but also has positive consequences for the climate, as fewer cows mean less methane emission. In fact, the number of cows on Bornholm has drastically decreased from around 50,000 in 1950 when the cooperative dairy was founded to only about 6,000 today. This is a significant difference when you start counting burps and farts from each cow.
